Executive Coaching
Michelle's approach to executive coaching is one of customized partnership. Her practice focuses on one-on-one support for leaders, managers, and high-potential individual contributors. Tailoring to the person and their organization/situation, she has worked extensively on topics such as role transitions, leadership and management skill development, interpersonal issues, and mindset and behavior change. Michelle draws on her business background and decades of work in people development to accelerate change and growth.

Michelle typically works with coaching clients weekly or every other week over a period of months, depending on the goal of coaching. Often, the engagement includes 360-degree interviews with colleagues (peers, boss/board, direct reports, clients where applicable) to gather candid feedback.

With the benefit of input from selected people, Michelle works with her clients on goal-setting and making a plan that prioritizes the most important areas for change. Where it fits, she will utilize assessments or other tools to gain deeper insight more quickly.

My clients are, across the board, successful people who want to accelerate change in one or more areas. Sometimes this is a result of a new opportunity--a promotion, new position and/or company, or career switch. Sometimes the need for change is a more persistent personal issue that they've tried to address alone but have decided to seek help around. No matter what sparks the desire to change, if my client is motivated I believe it can happen, especially with support and accountability.

Regular coaching sessions balance the long-term goals with short-term practical needs or "live" situations related to the coaching objectives. In this way, Michelle aims for her clients to feel a sense of progress with every coaching session, while in parallel working toward achieving the overall desired outcome.

Leveraging her time in academia and as a consultant and in-house as a head of human capital, Michelle has built a library of tools, books, articles and frameworks that she routinely recommends to clients to extend opportunities for learning outside of formal sessions.

While process and content are important, perhaps the keys to Michelle's effectiveness are the personal qualities she brings and the coaching style she employs. Clients describe the environment she creates as warm, open, and non-judgmental, yet consistently goal focused. This gives them the freedom to explore any and all topics related to their desired outcomes, and results in quicker, actionable insights and progress.

"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom."
